Where do you go from a misguided cover of "Niggas in Paris"? Dissing Beyoncé sounds about right. While discussing a potential collaboration with Rihanna on BBC 1, Perry noted that she doesn't want to rush things. And then she got passive-aggressive.

[Rihanna and I have] collaborated on a lot of things, but just not songs yet. It's one of those things that's got so much build up that we have to deliver. I want it to be like that Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin song "Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves," not "Beautiful Liar." But I definitely want to do something that is so iconic.

For those who don't know why that's bitchy, "Beautiful Liar" is Beyoncé's collaboration with Shakira. (Consequently, Katy Perry also dissed Shakira, but that feels less controversial.)

As pop songs go, few would call "Beautiful Liar" "iconic," but Perry's remarks still represent strangely pointed criticism. And now whatever song she and Rihanna collaborate on will be judged accordingly: "It's good, sure, but is it iconic?"
