College to Charge Extra for Deluxe Classes Like 'English' and 'Math'
Santa Monica College is an absolutely god damn humongous community college in California. They have a problem faced by many such institutions these days: no money$$$ from their broke-ass state government, and one bazillion kids trying to get in, because everyone is poor and shit these days. How to take advantage of one of these problems to solve the other? Charge more money$$$, for the "good" classes!
Under the plan, approved by the governing board and believed to be the first of its kind in the nation, the two-year college would create a nonprofit foundation to offer such in-demand classes as English and math at a cost of about $200 per unit. Currently, fees are $36 per unit, set by the Legislature for California community college students. That fee will rise to $46 this summer.
Look, it's only fair that if you want to take a Premium Gold-Plated Deluxe class like "English," or "math," you pay extra, okay? All of those letters and numbers aren't just conjured up by the human mind, for free. You can't expect to get the Ferrari of community college courses at Yugo prices.
Of course, standard courses such as, ah, physical education and home economics are still available at normal prices. It is still possible to get a completely worthless education free of words and numbers at the same great price.
