Canadian skicross racer Nick Zoricic died today after crashing at a World Cup event in Switzerland. Zoricic, who was 29, suffered "severe neurotrama" and was unresponsive at the scene. The International Ski Federation released a statement in response.

Nick Zoricic fell heavily just before the finish in the round of eight, crashing directly into the safety netting and thereafter lying motionless. The medical care from team doctors and Air Glacier followed immediately. The organizing committee, FIS and Swiss Ski express their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Nick Zoricic and the Canadian Ski Team.

Zoricic is the second Canadian skier to die this season. Freestyle skier Sarah Burke (also 29) died during a January training event in Utah.

For those feeling particularly morbid, there is video footage of Zoricic's fatal crash online.
