Oscar Winner Cut 9/11 Joke From Current Film To Increase Chances At Winning
Jean Dujardin, winner of this year's Oscar for best actor for his role in The Artist, cut a joke about 9/11 from his new film so as not to sabotage his chance at winning the prestigious award, a report recently claimed. The UK Telegraph has more:
In the scene, which was set to be one of a number exploring the subject of male infidelity, Dujardin plays an unfaithful New York husband who takes a girlfriend to a hotel room.
Talking to his wife on the phone while he is seducing the woman, Dujardin stands by a window where, in the background, an airline can be seen flying into the World Trade Centre, as it did on September 11th 2001.
Dujardin has his back to the terrorist atrocity in which thousands died, and says to his wife: "Yes, yes, my darling, everything is fine!"
A source claims the Dujardin was aware that the scene, from his new film Les Infideles, could have ruffled some feathers in the world of American cinema. The film had already raised some eyebrows, with critics claiming that it was overtly sexist and misogynistic. The magazine Le Point alleges that an exhaustive effort was meant to keep the deleted scene a secret until after the ceremony.
