There are a lot of parenting books out there, but not all of them answer the very pertinent question, "Is it okay to hotbox my car with my two-year-old son in the backseat?" So allow us to answer: No. No, it is not okay.

But try telling that to J.C. Monroe, whom police officers pulled over in Sacramento on Wednesday driving a car "allegedly so thick with smoke that officers couldn't immediately see the two-year-old boy in the back seat." He was quickly arrested and charged with child abuse and is currently in jail awaiting trial. He "vehemently" denies the charges:

The child's father, J.C. Monroe, disputed the account in a jailhouse interview with CBS13 and vehemently denied that anyone had been "hotboxing" inside the vehicle.

"My son was in the car, there was some smoke, but it was not a hotbox," Monroe said. His friend, who has a medical marijuana card, had just taken his first puff when officers pulled them over, he added.

Okay, so, let's amend our rule: if you're on probation, and your son is in the backseat, don't let your friend toke up while you drive. You can just pencil that into the back of your Dr. Spock book.
