61-year-old marathon swimmer Diana Nyad cut short her second attempt to swim from Cuba to the Florida Keys about halfway through her planned, 103-mile journey. Her official Twitter feed tells the story:

"It's over. She lasted 29 hours in an heroic attempt."
"Realizing the conditions of 5 to 10 knot winds and less than ideal currents, Diana herself decided to end the swim."
"Earlier in the evening, she was surrounded by dolphins and a beautiful Caribbean sunset. But strong currents blew her 15mph off course."
"The combination of factors was too much to safely continue."
