Former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn has been released from house arrest without bail, after revelations that his accuser might be so unreliable that the case won't hold up.

Strauss-Kahn will no longer be confined to his luxurious Tribeca townhouse—where he must have been sooo cramped—but authorities have confiscated his passport, so he won't be able to return to France until legal proceedings are finished.

And it's looking increasingly likely that this might end with things working out for DSK. In a letter today, the prosecutor in the case outlined a long list of lies his accuser told during the investigation, including basic facts about the incident. (She initially said she had waited in a hallway after the attack, now she says she cleaned a nearby room, then went back to DSK's room to clean his, according to the Times.)

But after the hearing, the accuser's lawyer reiterated that his client had been raped, that her account of the rape had "never changed" and said she was prepared to come forward and tell her side of the story. "She is not going to remain in hiding any more," he said. This would probably be a good idea, because right now all the momentum is on DSK's side.
