Katie has left the building. After a five-year run as anchor of the CBS Evening News, Katie Couric signed off for the last time this evening.
"It's been an extraordinary privilege to sit in this chair," Couric started off before introducing "Five Years in Five Minutes," a retrospective of her greatest hits, the highlight of which was clearly her 2008 interview with Sarah Palin. Then, with the camera focused back on the anchor desk, Couric ended her final broadcast with a short, simple thank you to the viewers: "And to all of you watching, thank you so much for coming along with me on this incredible journey. That's the CBS Evening News for tonight. I'm Katie Couric. Goodnight." And good luck!
