Jimmy McMillan Has Been Co-opted by the Tea Party
Former New York gubernatorial candidate Jimmy McMillan, who became a national sensation after saying "the rent is too damn high" many times in one debate last year, has concocted a clever self-marketing strategy. He takes his famous "the ___ is too damn high" formulation and fills the blank with whatever corporations pay him to fill it with.
Consider the video up top, in which McMillan interviews folks outside the White House and joins them in saying, "GASOLINE is too damn high." Just plugs a new word right in there! And the gasoline is unusually high right now, in prices. But this ad, which comes with its own cutesy petition site, is produced by Let Freedom Ring USA, a Delaware-based Tea Party advocacy group representing big oil extraction interests who have no ability to change the current price of gasoline.
Prediction: Jimmy McMillan, in the not too distant future, is going to have an epiphany: the capital gains and top marginal income tax rates are too damn high! These opinions will come naturally to him, unprompted, in the middle of the night.
