The Two Emails Bill Clinton Sent During His Presidency
Former president Bill Clinton only sent two emails during his presidency, he told a crowd in New York. Two! In commemoration of his true confession, we've collected the only eight photos we could find of Bill Clinton Using, Looking at, and/or Pointing at Computers. They are... marvelous!
Nowadays, of course, President Clinton is constantly sending email, and receiving email, on various devices—he is basically just the President of Email, at this point—but when he was actually president? Not so much, really:
"I sent a grand total of two emails as president," he said [at the Wired for Change conference in New York], "one to our troops in the Adriatic, and one to John Glenn when he was 77 years old in outer space. I figured it was OK if Congress subpoenaed those." When he took office in '93, he added, there were about 50 sites on the Internet, and cell phones were so heavy that they were best used for bicep curls.
Look: Those are not, in the end, particularly embarrassing emails to have sent, and it was during the 1990s, which we have all officially agreed to Pretend Never Happened with respect to What We Were Doing On The Internet At That Time, Especially In The AOL Chat Room "The Red Dragon Inn." Plus, one of those emails went to outer space! So it should count for two or three regular emails.
All of which is moot, however, when you see these photos. The man may have sent two emails only, but he knew how to look good using a computer. Such confidence! Such enthusiasm! So many computers!
