Watch This Controlled Explosion Quickly Get Out of Control
Yesterday a demolition crew blew up a 275-foot tower at the old Mad River Power Plant in Springfield, Ohio to great fanfare. But there was one problem — it fell the wrong way and took out the area's electricity.
When the explosives at the base of the tower blew, an existing crack in the structure made the tower slowly sway the wrong way and crash down on two 12,500-volt power lines. "We just ran. We were standing underneath the power lines, it was like the end of the world. We were running for our lives," Eric Higgenbotham, a videographer for local news channel WHIO-TV, told the Dayton Daily News. No one was injured in the accident.
