Mayor Mike's War on Soda Excludes His Own Company
Mayor Mike Bloomberg likes junk food, just not for poor people. He's gone to war against salt and soda, but his company's office remains stocked with goodies: "We have all the junk in the world up there," one employee says.
Earlier this week, Bloomberg said he wanted to put a two-year ban in place that would keep people from using food stamps to buy soda. But his food war is only being waged on poor people. The Times interviewed a Bloomberg L.P. employee who said the company's Manhattan office has everything from bananas and celery, to Coke and Mountain Dew: "I mean, you can gain 15 pounds in a hurry." The mayor also keeps a stash of soda at Gracie Mansion. From the Times:
[Bloomberg] is known for negotiating voluntary reductions in salt by food companies, and putting salt on his own saltine crackers; for fighting rising obesity among his constituents, and for serving comfort food like grilled hot dogs and ice cream sundaes at his town house.
