German Catholics Call for 'Santa Claus-Free Zones' at Christmas
Last month, liberals' 2010 war on Christmas began. Now, a group of German Catholics are joining in, by calling for "Santa Claus-free zones." They want Santa replaced with Saint Nicolas, because Santa is "an invention of the advertising industry." Blasphemy!
The Catholic group, called the Bonifatiuswerk, are asking people to ditch Santa Claus at Christmas in favor of Saint Nicolas, who they say was "a helper in need who reminds us to be kind, to think of our neighbours, and to give the gift of happiness" and some other long-winded nonsense. According to Reuters, the group's site (in German, obviously) says that besides being a creation of the advertising industry to make money, Santa Claus is merely "a representative of consumer society."
Next thing you know, they'll be trying to tell us that Valentine's Day was created by the marketing department at Hallmark. Is nothing sacred?
