Let's face it, hockey is only worth watching for the fights. And one man, Bob Probert, made fighting on the ice an art form. He died yesterday in Ontario at 45. He ranks fifth all-time in NHL penalty minutes.

Probert collapsed and died yesterday on a family boating trip in Windsor, Ontario. During his 17 year career, Probert beat the shit out of many people, and in 1989 was arrested for cocaine possession (go figure). He retired in 2002. The owners of the Detroit Red Wings released this statement:

Bob was one of the toughest men to ever play in the NHL. He also was one of the kindest, most colorful, and beloved players Detroit has ever known. We are very saddened by his passing and our thoughts and prayers go out to Bob's family."
