Politicians on both sides of the aisle have put aside their differences to collectively humiliate Michael Steele for his "Obama's war" gaffe. First came the Dems with their stupid press release. Now it's John McCain and Co.'s turn.

On this beautiful Fourth of July, the Sunday talk shows turned into a swiftly rotating cartoon spanking machine, with a powerful Republican senator where each oversized rubber hand should be. John McCain was not pleased about the GOP Chairman's comment at a fundraiser that Afghanistan was "a war of Obama's choosing" and "not something the United States had actively prosecuted or wanted to engage in." On This Week McCain stopped about a millimeter short of telling Steele to pack up his suitcase and take his magical parade of mistakes outta town:

I think those statements are wildly inaccurate and there is no excuse for them... I think that Mr. Steele is going to have to assess as to whether he can still lead the Republican Party as chairman of the Republican National Committee.

Sen. Lindsey Graham said something funny on Face the Nation:

This is not President Obama's war; this is America's war... I want to separate myself from that statement. And the good news is Michael Steele is backtracking so fast he's going to be in Kabul fighting here pretty soon.

And Senator Jim DeMint of South Carolina (soon to be ousted by plucky upstart Alvin Greene) told Fox News Sunday that "Chairman Steele needs to apologize to our military" because "This is America's war. It's not Obama's war."

So, Michael Steele must be relieved that's over. Now everyone can carry on as if nothing happened until his next spectacular screwup.
