Afshan Azad, who plays Padma Patil in the popular film series, was reportedly attacked at her Manchester home by family members. Her father and brother appeared in court yesterday and were charged with threatening to kill the 22-year-old college student.

Given that the family is of Bengali descent and the alleged attackers were her father and brother, is it possible that this was an honor killing situation? Obviously that might be something of a culturally blunt leap to take, but the circumstances do seem to ring true of that kind of situation. In addition to the threatening charge, Azad's brother is facing charges for "assault occasioning actual bodily harm," related to the same May 21st incident. The case has been adjourned until later in the month.
