After a rocky start, Bernie Madoff has finally settled into prison life. He hangs with spies, haggles over laundry, and bitches about his former clients: "I carried them for twenty years, and now I'm doing 150 years."

This week's New York cover story has some great insider accounts of Madoff's time in prison from former inmates. The greatest Ponzi schemer of all time is a hustler even in jail, where he talked down the cost of doing laundry and offers business advice to drug dealers. Madoff is a rock star in prison, and as one former prisoner said, "Everybody was trying to kiss his ass." Life on the inside clearly hasn't softened old Bernie, who had some harsh words for his victims:

According to K.C. White, a bank robber and prison artist who escorted a sick friend that evening, Madoff stopped smiling and got angry. "Fuck my victims," he said, loud enough for other inmates to hear. "I carried them for twenty years, and now I'm doing 150 years."

Read the whole story here, it's good.
