Washington Post Reporter Slammed for Bias Against Bigots
In your biased Tuesday media column: a WaPo reporter loses all credibility with hateful Jesus wingnuts, yet another Tumblr-to-book deal, the entire media apparatus struggles to figure out the internet's secrets, and a new poll proves nobody is credible.
- Dave Weigel covers, get this, conservatives, for the Washington Post. But wait—on the Twitter, Dave Weigel accurately characterized the anti-gay marriage crowd as "bigots." That did not please the conservatives he covers, who are part of the anti-gay marriage crowd! Then Dave had to go and write a painstaking explanatory post. This is why working for the nation's premier political news outlet sucks way more than just being a blogger, where you can tell the truth without worrying what bigots think.
- Tumblr book deals are apparently still a thing: Jessica Schroeder just got a book deal for her Tumblr, What I Wore. She will write a book about what to wear. Congratulations (sincerely) to Jessica, for grabbing this trend before it dies out.
- The Nation has totally redesigned its web site, but don't worry: "We will never be in the business of assigning stories to get clicks," they say. Meanwhile, the New Yorker is chasing after the "pictures of cats on the internet" revenue. Meanwhile, the New York Observer is totally incentivizing all of its employees to stop agonizing over the fancy "good writing" and get those Click$$$! Meanwhile, The Awl is out of ideas. The clear winner in this cluttered media landscape: Justin Bieber Nude.
- In a new poll, people said that CNN is the most trustworthy news outlet, followed by—in descending order—Fox News, the broadcast networks, the New York Times, the WSJ, and the Daily Show. But those were all the choices offered in the poll, and people had to pick one. So the poll is pretty fucking worthless. So watch for the media outlets involved to start touting its results in ads any day now.
