Bennett Miller
Miller is the Oscar-nominated director who is best known for the 2005 film Capote and 2011's Moneyball.
Born in New York City, Miller has known writer Dan Futterman and actor Philip Seymour Hoffman since he was a child—Miller and Futterman went to high school together and all three attended the acclaimed New York State Summer School of the Arts—which proved to be quite the career booster. Miller got his start in the film industry with his documentary The Cruise, which tells the story of a New York City bus tour guide. However, he got his big break with his first feature film Capote, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Director, Futterman Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, and Hoffman an Oscar for Best Actor for his masterful portrayal of Truman Capote. Most young directors fresh off an Oscar nomination would typically rush to make a films and rake in accolades, but Miller took his sweet time, waiting six years until Moneyball, another quiet Oscar contender which earned nominations for Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, and Best Picture.
