A protegée of Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, Astley has been the editor of Teen Vogue since it was founded in 2002.

Raised in Michigan, Astley earned her B.A. in English from Michigan State University and quickly jetted off to New York. She worked as an associate editor at HG right out of school but joined the Vogue team in 1993, where she was promptly promoted to Beauty Director the following year. She bid her time at mama Vogue for several years before being promoted to editor of Teen Vogue when it was launched in 2002. Vogue's little sister—literally, it's in the chic "Euro" magazine size—Teen Vogue may be for teens, but it still shills exorbitantly expensive clothes and features pieces about the progeny of the rich and famous rather than the rich and famous themselves. Although it got off to a bit of a rocky start, Teen Vogue's circulation steadily continues to rise, giving inspiration to many a budding fashionista. [Image via Getty]
