Ellen Levine
The former editor of Good Housekeeping, Levine is editorial director of Hearst, which means she has a hand in what ends up in everything from Cosmo to Popular Mechanics.
A Wellesley College grad, Levine began her career in journalism at The Record in Hackensack, New Jersey. She upgraded to markedly swankier digs as a senior editor of Cosmopolitan and as editor-in-chief of Woman's Day and Redbook before landing the gig of editor-in-chief of Good Housekeeping. Making publishing history as the first female editor of the publication since its founding in 1885, Levine also was a factor in the majorly successful launches of O: The Oprah Magazine and Food Network Magazine. After racking up accolades, like a National Magazine Award from the American Society of Magazine Editors and recognition from AdWeek, Levine was promoted to editorial director of Hearst Magazines in 2006. With a diverse collection of titles under her direction, from Elle to Car and Driver, Seventeen to Esquire, Levine is charged with developing new properties while also evaluating brand extension and digital opportunities for the current rags.
