Hedge Funder Attacks Valet at the Ritz, Takes Emotional Mug Shot
Cambridge, Mass. hedge fund manager Richard Grubman threw an alleged hissy fit at the Boston Ritz-Carlton yesterday, shouting "obscenities" and flinging his BMW's keys at a valet's face. Charged with felony assault and battery, his mug shot conveys deep distress.
Grubman is accused of then yelling "obscenities" at a valet before throwing his keys in his face "striking him in the upper lip area," according to a police report.
"He was excited and arguing with everybody," valet manager Ephrem Temesgen told the Herald yesterday. "He accused us of keeping his keys. I said, ‘Sir, we don't have your keys.' "
Hotel security reported they found Grubman's keys under a Range Rover.
The officers stated in their incident report that Grubman "began to yell and scream, stating he was being abused," as they placed him under arrest.
Grubman did not respond to requests for comment left at his office and home. He could not be reached last night at his 10-room, $4.5 million mauve Tudor manse in the shadow of Harvard University.
Grubman is a Princeton grad and a trustee of the Boston Arts Academy. The car in question was a "silver 2007 BMW X5 SUV." [BostonHerald]
