Arctic Seal Wanders Into New Jersey, Where Amateur Rescuers Almost Kill It
How icy is Snowpocalypse? So icy that an arctic seal swam all the way to New Jersey before it realized something was wrong. Then it crawled ashore and got hit by a snowplow.
Woodbridge, NJ locals tried to save the wandering beast by capturing it in a dog muzzle, ensnaring it in a net, and shoving it into a river. All three methods, say officials at the Marine Mammal Stranding Center of Brigantine, NJ, are totally stupid. To Woodbridge's credit, who has a contingency plan for transient seals? Apparently you're supposed to call your local Marine Mammal Stranding Center. They have rescued "many seals in the last few weeks." [StarLedger] [Pic via]
