A judge has frozen the assets of Peter Madoff, the brother of Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff, and granted him $10,000 a month in living expenses. How is he supposed to live on that?

As the New York Times has established, it's impossible to live on $500,000. Peter Madoff, the former compliance officer at his brother's firm, has been sentenced to live on a quarter of that. The order applies while the authorities sort out his culpability in his brother's $50 billion scheme. (He denies any knowledge.)
