Google executive gives perky take on recession
Want to know what worry-prone consumers are looking for online? Marissa Mayer, the search engine's prettiest vice president, went on Today to reveal its top searches for 2008.
What better spokeswoman than the ex-girlfriend of cofounder Larry Page, who's worth hundreds of millions of dollars thanks to her pre-IPO Google stock options? Mayer, who lives in a penthouse apartment in the Four Seasons in San Francisco, makes for an unlikely explainer of why people are searching for "bailout," "depression," and all manner of comfort food. The best part, though, is the awkward pause when host Matt Lauer prods Mayer about Google's list of fast-growing searches. Facebook, the company Google worries about more than anyone these days, was No. 2.
