On Tuesday evening, the Sundance Channel hosted a screening and cocktail party at the private club Norwood for Loic Prigent's new documentary series, The Day Before. Hosting the event were Proenza Schouler's Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez and Nathalie Rykiel of Sonia Rykiel, who are featured in Full Frontal Fashion-branded series. On hand for the occasion: Gossip Girl's Leighton Meester, Vogue's Lauren Santo Domingo, fashion darling Julia Restoin Roitfeld, and stylist/Bravo star Rachel Zoe, who was accompanied by her husband (Rodger) and right-hand man (Brad Goreski). Cityfile correspondent Douglas Marshall caught up with Lorenzo Martone, advertising exec and fiancé of Marc Jacobs, and his date for the evening, model Julie Henderson, to talk Fashion Week strategy.

Q: So Fashion Week is starting and you'll be attending lots of parties over the next week, undoubtedly. Any tips on pulling an all-nighter and still showing up fresh the next day for a 10AM show?

LM: I'd recommend being very moderate as far as what you drink, using good creams, eating healthy, and sleeping for at least 6 hours a night.

Q: Fair enough. What creams are we talking about? What would we find in your beauty cabinet?

LM: I've really into two brands these days: Dr. [Fredric] Brandt's cosmetic line is great—and he's a great dermatologist, too. I also love Shiseido for men.

Q: What look are you going to be rocking this Fashion Week? Anything special planned?

LM: Well, this season a couple things happened. I started wearing glasses and I became really good friends with Brad Goreski [from Bravo's Rachel Zoe Project.] We were just having fun trying to achieve the nerd look. So I've been very into suspenders and I'm trying to wear suspenders all the time. Even if it doesn't make sense—I still wear suspenders. I think the most important thing is to choose something comfortable that also allows you to be playful, so you have something to talk about.

Q: There have been some haters out there who have called your "nerd" look—the suspenders, glasses, and shorts—into question. What do you have to say to them?

JH: [Julie Henderson interjects]: Join the club!

LM: I actually find it funny, I will always have fun with fashion. I don't take it too seriously. Nothing lasts forever; next season is going to be about something else. When Louis Vuitton did the Steven Sprouse collection with all the bright colors, I just loved how bright and bold it was, and I happened to be wearing a lot of Vuitton at the time. But a lot of people hated it and thought it was too branded and colorful. But it's done now and that season has passed. But I had fun with it.

Q: You have to take risks, sure. Speaking of which, are you preparing to take the plunge with Marc? Are you doing wedding planning?

LM: I'm not talking about our personal life anymore, unfortunately. What I can tell you is that we are very, very happy. But I'm not commenting beyond that.

Q: Fair enough. So is there anything you're particularly excited about this Fashion Week?

LM: I'm excited about a couple of things coming up. Commonwealth Utilities is doing a great presentation on Sunday. Alexander Wang and Katie Grand's Love party is also something I'm very excited about.

Q: You're out and about a lot. Have there been any parties you haven't been invited to that you had trouble getting into? Has Lorenzo Martone ever crashed a party?

LM: (laughing) I wouldn't know, because I've never tried that. I guess I would come as somebody's date. Like tonight, for instance. I'm crashing Paper's 25th anniversary party with her. I wasn't invited, but I'm going as her date. So there you go. I don't usually have a problem but I don't try too hard.

JH: Well, I came to this party as a plus one with Lorenzo, but I'm bringing him to Paper. We share!
