Police said a 4-year-old girl was shot and killed in a road-rage incident in Albuquerque on Tuesday, KOAT 7 Albuquerque reports.

Albuquerque police spokeswoman Celina Espinoza said police are still searching for a suspect, the Associated Press reports. Officer Simon Drobik said the authorities shut down westbound traffic on a section of I-40 to allow police to investigate. Police have reportedly identified a suspect vehicle.

From KOAT 7:

A father, mother and child were in the car, but only the child was injured. It’s unclear how many shots were fired.

An off-duty Bernalillo County deputy pulled over to help shortly after the shooting. At first he thought the child had fallen out of the car, but then he learned she’d been shot.

Police called the shooting a road rage case and said that the family did not know the shooter.

Update 8:50 pm: KOAT 7 and KRQE News 13 are both reporting that the girl has died.
