While some may attribute Paris Hilton's recent string of lightly charitable acts of calculated kindness to her crack team of image-rehabilitative professionals, there's no denying the heiress's sincere commitment to another area of her endeavors: The affixing of her name to crappy products. Now, in addition to Paris Hilton perfume, records, and cellphone videogames, comes the Paris Hilton clothing collection, every item lovingly constructed by the tiny hands of Vietnam's most talented sweatshop toddlers. Its debut last night, at celebrity trend-whoring temple Kitson (who donated 20% of the day's sales to charity—way to get into the giving-back spirit, guys!), caused a near riot on Robertson Blvd.:

Police and city workers were called in to handle the crowd and a lane of traffic was closed as Paris Hilton unveiled her clothing line Thursday at a trendy boutique.

The heiress, author, singer, perfume designer and reality-TV star unveiled the line at Kitson, a boutique known for its celebrity clientele. The lane was closed for pedestrians' safety, a city spokesman said.

Clad in a gold sequin mini-dress, Hilton, 26, emerged from a black SUV to a throng of fans who spilled into the street. Inside the store, Hilton was all smiles.

"It's a dream come true to have my own clothing line," she said. "It's just Paris style: fun, bright and flashy..." Hilton said she spent a year submitting and approving designs.

"It's just from my closet to their closets," she said.

We don't know about you, but we feel safer just knowing our men in blue were dispatched to the scene, and demonstrated admirable restraint by using only non-lethal, tazer-and-tear-gassing means to control the increasingly unruly crowd, desperate to catch a glimpse of the wonky-eyed mogul on her first foray into the glamorous world of chintzy apparel sales. And what apparel! Smartly, Hilton limited the collection only to the most wearable designs, opting not to mass market the less practical elements of her closet's contents, such as a velour tracksuit completely covered in shimmering, pink Swarovski crystals (worn only once!), or the remains of her long-forgotten pet kinkajou.
