Oprah "Disappointed" Dad's Shopping A Tell-All
Confirmed: Oprah Winfrey doesn't read Gawker. She had to hear from the Daily News that her dad Vernon Winfrey is writing a book about her, and she didn't even believe it at first. "I called him and it turned out he is writing a book. The worst part of it was him saying, 'I meant to tell you I've been working on it,'" she tells Rush & Molloy. She's "shocked," and we would be too if our dad was telling the world how ornery we were as a pregnant teenager, as in this excerpt of his proposal!
Dad writes: "When she was fourteen, Oprah had a way keeping my blood up. If I pulled east she'd tug west. If I pointed north she was hell-bent on south. She wasn't an unpleasant child. In fact, her company was a great joy to me. But she did have a problem with directions."
Also: "Oprah was drifting, you see, aimless as a leaf on the wind. With every shifting breeze she took flight. One day she even told Zelma and me that she wanted to be a hippie. A hippie? She was only fourteen, but I didn't care if she were forty. No child of mine was going to stick wildflowers in her hair and light that Hindu incense—or light any other nonsense." Maybe she just wanted to be able to wear looser clothes because of the whole pregs thing? God, parents just don't understand.
