Have you not picked up the latest issue of Sister 2 Sister magazine? We have, and we have read cover 2 cover! From a long exclusive trip with Michael Jackson, to bathroom time with Naomi Campbell, to ripping on Calvin Klein, there are a thousand and one reasons why this is one of the most awesome magazines at the newsstand. We will tell you twelve of those reasons.

  • The "Meow: Warm Whispers and Hot Secrets" column devotes two full pages to a recent trip Michael Jackson took to Tokyo, because the writer, Jamie Foster Brown, was "the only journalist allowed to tag along"! Well la-di-da! Michael Jackson "surrounds himself with an African-American support staff, from security to his hair stylist, who keeps his 'do looking the best I've ever seen it." Also, at Disneyland in Tokyo, they sang the Mickey Mouse Club song together! "The entire trip was amazing and I'm grateful to Michael's family and management for allowing me to share private time with them. There were no interviews allowed, just relaxation and quiet observation of this superstar." She also "met a lot of Black people who make a good living as singers" in Tokyo.
  • Naomi Campbell also loves Jamie Foster Brown. After Joe Francis tore her dress at Clive Davis's Grammy pre-party, "Naomi and I were in the ladies' room, trying to mend the designer dress... 'Only you I would let shoot me in the bathroom, by the way,' Naomi told me. 'I'm always opposed to doing that. But just because it's you, Jamie, and God knows we all love you and can't do without you.'" Agree!
  • On New York Fashion Week: "It's ironic that in the age of diversity we are still waiting for our Black models to be among the masses walking the runways in the New York shows. And it's not only the absence of Black models that was evident: Where were the Indian models, the Asian models, the Puerto Rican models? Not only did the Calvin Klein collection not have Black models, it did not have American models of any kind. All the Calvin Klein models were from Eastern bloc nations with last names you cannot even pronounce." Agree!
  • A story about the first African-American female fire chief in the world.
  • A beauty feature called "Primpin' Ain't Easy."
  • Did you know that there is a book club for black women called "Black Expressions"?
  • The rapper Jibbs's mom was also a rapper who went by the name "Toasted Tan."
  • A car column: the Saturn Aura XR is "definitely friendly for those with long fingernails."
  • Eddie Murphy asked his new girlfriend, Tracey Edmonds, out for tea on their first date. "That's the real Eddie. He has so many different, unique, interesting qualities that you would never imagine Eddie Murphy to have." This Q&A with Tracey Edmonds goes on for eight pages.
  • A scary photo of George Clinton.
  • The letters page. "Dear Sister 2 Sister, I know this information is kind of late. But in your August 2006 magazine, did anyone notice the picture on page 84 of Tiny's T-shirt? I'm sure someone informed you of the curse word on her shirt. Don't you people double-check and triple-check what goes out before it goes to publication?"
  • Well?
  • And! "Dear S2S, Hey, I would like to say that the special feature on Johnny Gill and his son is a true life wakeup call for young Black men and soon-to-be fathers. It makes us 'cons' wish we could be with our children... I have found that there are very few men out there that can see their seeds, and then there are the ones that can see them but choose not to. I'm not that one. I was young and following the wrong people and thinking that I was the 'sexy' man of the town. But all that 'sexiest man' got was locked up and without a wife."

Screw Portfolio. Forget New York magazine. This is a magazine that blends service and entertainment and lifestyle with panache and style.
