How bad are things getting at the Times? Among the rumblings of mutiny comes the following complaint, which, per standard procedure, we will pass along without verification in hopes of eventual confirmation:

Sulzberger has removed the cash component of the monthly Publisher's Awards he doles out. Each month there is a big poster with about a dozen winners in various categories; suddenly, there is no mention of the $500 or $1,000 that used to go with the honor.One of my colleagues was fulminating about it.

Maybe he's giving out stock instead! Send further details this way.

Update: A Times spokesbot informs us that "We have not put the dollar amounts on the Publisher's Award posters since Sept. 2004." So the colleague must have been fulminating for some time.
