Anna Nicole Smith Mourns Loss Of Son As Blogosphere Mourns License To Mock Her
What should have been, for all intents and purposes, the most joyous of blogging occasions—everyone's favorite car wreck at the corner of Crazy St. and White Trash Ave., Anna Nicole Smith, giving birth to a baby girl—has been dimmed considerably with news that Smith's 20-year-old son, Daniel, has been found dead in the Bahamas. He was there to visit his mother, who had delivered three days earlier:
Authorities had not determined what caused the death of Daniel Wayne Smith, whose body was found Sunday morning, said Robin Bonnema, a spokeswoman for Trimspa, the diet products company that has been endorsed by Smith.
Bonnema declined to provide details, saying only that Smith died "in his bed."
From his limited exposure slinking around the background of his mother's E! reality show, Daniel came off like a normal kid who, despite having inherited a capacity-for-shame gene that appears to have skipped one generation, loved his mother despite her many shortcomings. While a statement on Smith's official site states, "We have yet to learn the cause of death but do not believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor," the timing and mysterious circumstances raise more than a few questions. We hope the cause, however tragic, was natural, and that any mortification he experienced over his mother's behavior wasn't so severe as to transcend its figurativeness.
