19-Foot Python Breaks Into Australian Thrift Store
Police in Australia investigating a presumed burglary at a thrift store thought it was odd that there was a large hole in the store's ceiling and a pile of vomit-like liquid on the ground. As it turns out, though, it wasn't a burglar responsible for the damage but instead a 19-foot python, which an employee found 24-hours later, hiding alongside a wall.
"Its head was the size of a small dog," Police Sgt. Don Auld said of the snake, which weighed nearly 40 pounds. “We thought a person had fallen through the ceiling because the roof panel was cut in half. When they've hit the floor, they've vomited and then staggered and fallen over. That's what we thought anyway.”
Police now believe the snake entered the store through its roof, which had been damaged in a storm two years ago. The snake then hid inside the store for several days until it was discovered by a probably terrified employee. The mess on the ground is believed to be waste from the snake. Wildlife experts were called into catch the python, and it was returned to nearby wetlands.
Of course, the ceiling entrance is technically still a theory. It's possible the python just opened the front door on its own.
