Ed2010 Raises the Tough Questions
Ed2010 is the "group for young editors who are hoping to reach their dream magazine jobs by the year 2010" (with the presupposition that one's dream magazine job must be at a mind-numbing women's book), and things have been getting hot and heavy on its bulletin boards lately. A perhaps unprecedented number of replies have been prompted by a troubled inquiry posted Friday night:
I guess we're all adults here so I need some adult-advice. So I did something the other night without thinking much of it. I just started this internship in NYC a week ago at a huge magazine, and I slept with one of my editors. Nobody at work knows and I doubt he'll say anything because hes an editor (and obviously I'm not saying a word). My big issue is that now that I'm actually thinking with my head about this whole thing, I'm a little worried about it because I just found out he's married. In my view, it was completely casual and just a way to let off a little steam, but I guess I should have thought about it more. I have no real feelings for him but I feel badly that I helped a guy cheat on his wife although I didn't know it. Basically, I'd like to know:
1. Has someone else been in a similar situation?
2. Do you pretend it never happened?
3. I've been thinking about getting an other internship that I was offered earlier. Am I jumping the gun?
I hope this is not too crude for the board, but the problem is weighing heavy.
It's a grave dilemma indeed — and not least because we can't quite decide if "weighing heavy" is idiomatically correct, or if it should be "weighing heavily."
