In the big screen pairing none of us wanted, but are getting anyway, Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher have begun filming The Guardian in North Carolina, a movie that finally lets Costner return to his heroic, waterlogged roots:

Fake snow and about 70 local extras are helping to transform the local U.S. Coast Guard station into an Alaskan counterpart for a movie starring Kevin Costner.

Filming in the area began Monday for The Guardian, which is set in Kodiak, Alaska and co-stars Ashton Kutcher.

Costner's character in the film teaches Coast Guard rescue swimmers, including Kutcher, who plays a cocky swim champion training to become a rescue swimmer.

While The Guardian is billed as a compelling adventure-drama, why does something about the words "Ashton Kutcher," in conjunction with "cocky," "Speedo," and "frigid Alaskan waters" make us think this evening at the megaplex will provide more laughs than Just Married, My Boss's Daughter and Guess Who combined?
