A Sad Day for Small Magazines
Today's Times carries news that The New Leader, "a liberal beacon" for some 82 years that has published "everyone who was anyone in liberal intellectual circles," will shut down after releasing its January-Feburary issue late next month.
And today's Chicago Tribune reports the demise of Legal Affairs, "[a] wonderfully accessible, educational, small circulation look at the law," which has its Jan-Feb on stands and will suspend publication after the March-April issue.
Both were admired and admirable publications with small but devoted readerships and great writing on imporant issues, and their presence will be missed in the publishing and intellectual landscapes.
Or at least so we're told. We've never actually read either one.
