We were slowly reading New York mag's lengthy loveletter to Times columnist Maureen Dowd, but we got stuck on one item in particular, regarding her new book:

In Are Men Necessary?, we are taken along on a chummy sororal romp with the women who just happen to make up the female voice of what is arguably the most influential newspaper in the country — to the Cr me de la Mer counter at Saks, for example, with Dowd and "my girlfriend Alessandra."

Okay, HOLD UP. At the end of the day, we love Dowd for being a strong, successful woman. And we love Alessandra Stanley for trying so damn hard to nail the most insipid facts in her Arts pieces. Both are intelligent and deserve their success. But? Girls' day out with Cr me de la Mer is not the most humanizing detail to include. Seriously, what the fuck? That crap is $110 per ounce. Are these women journalists, or J-Lo?
