A hearty congratulations to the folks at Masa, who have so effectively raped and pillaged the wallets of New York foodies as to be named Forbes' most expensive restaurant in America. With its beloved prix fixe menu situated aspirationally at $350 per head, is it any wonder? Of course not.

But, just a reminder: The most expensive restaurant in our country and, thus, our city, is IN A MALL. Christ, can't some crazy restaurateur do something about this? Like, open something more absurd, more expensive, and put it on an avenue?

In the meantime, we await Johnny Apple's whirlwhind tour of the Bennigan's, Applebee's, and Ruby Tuesday's in the Mall of America. ("My wife, Betsy, and I nipped into a delectable Mondo Appetizer Sampler Platter, savoring the inspired juxtaposition of the jalapeno poppers' spicy ting and the mozzeralla sticks' creamy finish. Ah, to be young and Midwestern again.")
