We watch the Today show around here. Not because we like it, mind you, but because it's ripe for comedy. But as Alexis Glick is increasingly permitted to smash her pretty face against the camera and we grow more attentive to Matt Lauer's scalp than his interviews, we're beginning to wonder if, God forbid, we might have to jump ship for the sake of common sense.

According to Lloyd Grove, Good Morning America co-host Diane Sawyer has scored an interview with George Clooney, to be aired on both Primetime Live and GMA, after Clooney was ditched by Dateline and Today in favor of tabloid-friendly Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria. Clooney spit out a nasty letter to NBC producers and then sought refuge in the arms of Diane Sawyer, who is now gaining unprecedented access to the actor's Lake Como, Italy home. And today, Sawyer had an exclusive chat with President Bush, who seemed rather cheerful for having had his vacation interrupted by a natural disaster.

Big gets, indeed, but they pale in comparison to the holy grail. Cindy Adams has put down her gin-n-metamucil just long enough to inform us the Sawyer has scored the first post-Brangelina, softly-lit, sit-down interview with Jennifer Aniston. The commitment is so huge, the news so breathtaking, that we'd hardly be surprised if the two women were spotted in an embrace on the quiet shores of Cherry Grove.

Meanwhile, we're receiving reports that Katie Couric has actually snapped the necks of two Today producers and Al Roker is in an undisclosed location.
