As violence escalates in Libya, a rocket attack on Tripoli International Airport has set at least 1.5 million gallons of fuel aflame, with more than 23 million additional gallons in danger nearby.

The Libyan government is warning that the blaze could cause a "humanitarian and environmental disaster," the BBC reports. Fights between rival rebel militias for control of the airport have killed 97 people in the last week alone.

Libya is seeking international assistance with containing and putting out the fire, which is burning "out of control," according to the country's national oil company. The U.S. evacuated its embassy in Libya last week, and according to Reuters, Austria, the Philippines, and the Netherlands plan to do so today.
