A rather twisted idea, considered by a friend for a column item, discarded as bad taste, and handed down to a blog which does not recognize bad taste. We'd been talking over drinks about personal scramjets, and the delights of commuting from the beach in Tahiti to the office in Manhattan. And then the unimaginative plans for the World Trade Center site. And then the brainwave, which seemed very funny at the time: why not build an airport? As the idea's originator said: "We know they can fly in there."
