Woman Robbed at Loser Bar by "Wanker Google Glass Haters"
A Google Glass Explorer walked into a San Francisco punk loser bar, and everything went exactly how you'd expect.
Sarah Slocum, a San Francisco social media and business consultant, claims she had her Google Glass ripped off her face at a bar called Molotov's, and then had her purse stolen by the Glass-napper's friends as she gave chase.
Slocum reported the theft on Facebook:
OMG so you'll never believe this but... I got verbally and physically assaulted and robbed last night in the city, had things thrown at me because of some wanker Google Glass haters, then some *bleeeeeeeeeep* tore them off my face and ran out with them then and when I ran out after him his *bleeeeeeep* friends stole my purse, cellphone wallet and everything.
She told the San Francisco Chronicle that one of the *bleeeeeeep* accused her and her fellow techies of "destroying the city."
Slocum was able to recover her nerd-goggles, but said she had filed a police report about her missing purse and wallet. San Francisco police told the Chronicle Monday that they weren't aware of the incident.
It's not clear whether Slocum did anything to provoke the alleged Glass-hating wankers—like deviating from Google's official guide to not being a Glasshole—but ultimately, it might not have mattered: A Molotov's patron told San Francisco's KPIX that Molotov's is "probably one of the more punk rock bars in the city. It's not really Google Glass country," and suggested that "a level of tact in that sort of establishment might have behooved her."
On Facebook, Slocum described the theft as the first-ever "hate crime" against Glass-Americans:
Update: Here's the video Slocum recorded at the bar.
[There was a video here]
She writes:
After being verbally accosted and flicked off by the Asian looking girl, I turned on the video, and after I told them I was doing so they got pissed off and came after me. Unfortunately, I had not extended the video so it cuts out after 10 seconds.
Update 2: Apparently Molotov's has been mischaracterized as a "punk bar." It's actually a loser bar. Thanks, Mat Honan.
