A 65-year-old woman from Bangkok committed suicide on Friday by walking into a reptile farm outside the capital and jumping into a crocodile pit. Staff attempted to use large sticks to prevent the crocodiles from attacking her, but it was too late.

According to a report in the Bangkok Post, Wanpen Inyai removed her shoes before jumping into a pool that was home to hundreds of adult crocodiles. The water was almost ten feet deep.

Staff tried to use long sticks to stop the crocodiles from attacking her, according to the Bangkok Post.

Earlier that day, Ms Wanpen's family had tried to file a missing persons report after they discovered her disappearance, but they were reportedly told to wait for 24 hours.

Since her death, a spokesperson for the Samut Prakarn Crocodile Farm and Zoo said they had installed greater security measures and fences along the pit. The farm is home to over 10,000 crocodiles, the largest crocodile farm in the world, their website claims.

Wanpen's family had said they'd noticed she'd been depressed before her death.
