The wife of a jogger who was killed outside Dallas two weeks ago has died of an apparent suicide, police said Monday. A former Texas A&M football player has been charged in her husband’s death.

Patti Stevens, 54, was found dead in her garage on Sunday, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office said. Her husband, Dave Stevens, 53, was found, badly injured in an attack with a “large-edged weapon,” at White Rock Creek Trail on October 12th. He died later at a hospital.

“Dave was the love of my life and I’m lost without him,” Stevens told The Dallas Morning News last week.

Police said that former Texas A&M wide receiver Thomas Johnson, 21, killed Stevens around 8 am on a Monday morning earlier this month before calling 911.

In 2012, Johnson disappeared from the A&M campus after playing in an upset win against Alabama. Police found him in Dallas three days later. He never played college football again. Johnson’s family said he suffers from schizophrenia, but had never before acted violent.

“It appears Mr. Johnson picked this victim at random. Absolutely random,” Deputy Chief Rob Sherwin said after Stevens’ death. “He just attacked him... It’s just very unusual. It’s quite shocking.”
