Why Did Two People Parachute Into Lower Manhattan at 3 A.M.?
Early Monday morning, at about 3 a.m., two parachuters dressed in all black landed in Manhattan’s Financial District, near the Goldman Sachs building. But what were they doing, and where did they come from?
No one, including the NYPD, seems to know. The duo were captured on security cameras landing on the corner of West and Vescey Streets at 3:07 a.m. "They were seen walking with parachutes away from the location," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said. "No banners, notes were left. They walked away from the camera. We don't know how they left."
A police source told NBC New York that another security camera captured the duo in the air.
Was the jump part of some sort of stunt? Or was it for something else? Did the parachuters, who were also wearing black helmets, jump from planes into Manhattan in the middle of the night? The FAA is reportedly investigating air traffic in the area Sunday night. Or were the parachuters BASE jumping from a nearby skyscraper? Who knows!
