On Thursday, New York police arrested 49-year-old Mark Vicars and found in his home a number of worrying items—the illegal possession of which, individually and collectively, carry significant jail time.

Among those items:

  • A knife
  • A .380-caliber pistol
  • A loaded assault rifle
  • Other weapon
  • A ballistic body armor vest
  • Three high-capacity magazines with 8,300 rounds
  • A fake US Marshals shield
  • A fake US Marshals ID card
  • A US Marshals parking placard
  • Flashing lights in his car
  • A bulletproof vest labeled “POLICE Federal Agent”

“At this time we don’t see any immediate threat to the public,” Nassau County police Det. Lt. Richard LeBrun told reporters Friday.

Now that he’s in custody, investigators have a real mystery on their hands: What was this guy going to do with all this stuff?
