"Weird Al" Yankovic Returns With a "Tacky" Spoof of Pharrell's "Happy"
If there's one song from the past year that very obviously deserves a parody on a new "Weird Al" Yankovic album, it's Pharrell's "Happy." It's got an addictive hook, a simple theme, and Al only needed to rhyme one word to make it work. Voilá: "Tacky" is born.
Al's "Tacky" video is a straight-up spoof of the single-tracking-shot dance number from "Happy," starring Aisha Tyler, Margaret Cho, Eric Stonestreet, Kristen Schaal, Jack Black, and every tacky piece of clothing you can think of. (Except for Pharrell's famous hat, which is now a trademark of Arby's, or something.)
Fun fact: The video was shot by Nerdist in Julianne Moore's apartment from The Big Lebowski.
This is the first of 8 videos Al will release in the next week as part of his #8videos8days project, his attempt to pull a Beyoncé for his new record, Mandatory Fun. He told NPR this album is "ostensibly" his last, marking the end of a 32-year-long record contract.
It comes out July 15.
