It looks like the careers of several unknown stand-up comedians are about to really take off. Get it?

You will, once I explain: Virgin Atlantic announced yesterday that it will start offering live stand-up acts on certain Little Red flights from Heathrow to Manchester and Edinburgh later this month.

The live entertainment feature, which will eventually include live music as well, is part of the airline's effort to "shake up domestic flying in the UK," according to founder Sir Richard Branson.

The comedians on deck for this inescapable experience are "rising stars" who will be workshopping material on their way to comedy festivals.

Acts set to participate in the Mile High Comedy Club will be revealed on Twitter and Facebook shortly before each flight — meaning passengers won't know if they've been chosen to participate in this stress test until they're just about to board.

Sir Branson said his airline seeks to provide Little Red passengers "with a line-up of gigs to ensure we offer a truly unforgettable flying experience."

There is no doubt that's exactly what it will be.
