Usher's Son Rushed to Hospital After Near-Drowning Incident
Usher's 5-year-old son Usher Raymond V is recovering in an Atlanta hospital Tuesday afternoon, after nearly drowning while attempting to recover a toy that had become lodged in the drain of the singer's swimming pool.
According to the AP, a police report said the boy's arm became stuck in the drain when he reached in to grab the toy. Both a housekeeper and the boy's aunt tried and failed to free his arm, at which point they began shouting for help. The child was eventually pulled from the pool and given CPR by a subcontractor who happened to be working at the home, which is why it's very, very important to learn CPR.
A spokesman for the Atlanta Police Department says Usher V (the eldest of the singer's two children with ex-wife Tameka Foster) was "conscious, breathing and alert" when he was removed by ambulance to the hospital.
On July 21 of last year, Usher's 11-year-old stepson Kile Glover (another of Foster's sons) was declared brain dead after being struck by a man riding a rented jet ski. The accident prompted Usher and Foster to call a temporary halt to their bitter custody battle, which has since ended, giving Usher full custody of the children.
