Twerking Russian Hooligans Jailed
A court in Russia’s Novorossiysk district has sentenced a 19-year-old and two women in their 20s to 15 days and 10 days in jail, respectively, for twerking in front of a World War II memorial, the Associated Press reports. The dancers were found guilty of hooliganism. The twerking was recorded in a music video, which was posted to YouTube.
There are six women in the video (which is fun and great and definitely worth watching). In addition to the three women who received jail time, two women were fined, because of health reasons, the AP reports.
The sixth dancer is a minor, and was not convicted. According to the International Business Times, her mother was reprimanded for failing to “carry out measures to ensure the proper physical, intellectual, psychological, spiritual and moral development of the child.”
The video is set in front of a 1982 memorial, on the Black Sea, commemorating those who fought to liberate the city of Novorossiysk from German occupation in 1943. “This incident of disrespect for the memory of war history is unacceptable and any attempts to desecrate sites of military glory will be stopped immediately,” prosecutors said.
